The renovation of any structure can be one of the more emotional endeavors. There is the initial vision of what might one day be. There is the planning and execution. There are the ever-shifting choices of direction to take as the project unfurls. There is, certainly, the deep feeling of doubt that creeps deep into one's conscience as walls are demolished, ceilings are ripped out and floorboards pried. You know the feeling…."What have I gotten myself into!"
Only determination, commitment and vision can carry any sane set of individuals forward (although some might argue that sanity has nothing to do with it). The power behind this project falls squarely in the hands of two unique men, Tom Drauschak and Vince Piazza. They have had the courage to embark on this monumental endeavor. They are responsible for the resurrection of Saint Peter's Village.
The result, so far, is clear. The luxurious Inn straddled by the historic Black Granite Quarry in front and unique Falls of French Creek in the back with its massive rocks stand as a testament to the will of the people involved in its renewal. Executive Chef Martin Gagne contributed so much to the décor and interior design of the Inn. Only one with a creative esthetic eye, such as his, could have given us such a beautiful space to enjoy. The construction and landscaping crews worked so hard to get things absolutely right. It could have been much easier to do nothing and allow this historic village to continue to deteriorate from neglect.
As the village begins its journey toward a life of its own, shops will be opening, new housing will be built and people can come back with glowing pride to a place held dear in their memories. Families jumped rocks together here. Some families trace their heritage to this village. Teenagers met and fell in love here. I’ve personally heard so many beautiful stories.
As I continue to write this, I am thinking that this page should be renamed. It might just as well be 'about you.' I think that the real ownership has always been in the hands of those that have contributed to the lore of Saint Peter's Village. This is, after all, a very resilient village. One that has had its ups and downs, certainly, but haven't we all.
So here's to the past. Here's to the present. Here's to the future.
And here's to you,
